Hospitality group Dap & Co. has opened The Fifty Six, a Cantonese restaurant on the rooftop of Brisbane’s heritage-listed Naldham House.
Dap & Co. announced it would relaunch Naldham House last year as part of Dexus’ $2.5 billion waterfront Brisbane project.
The three-storey building on Mary Street underwent extensive renovations to reopen with three new hospitality concepts. In mid-July 2024 the group opened Naldham House Brasserie & Terrace, offering a pan-European menu and old-fashioned service, and late-night cocktail bar and lounged Club Felix.
The Fifty Six is the third and final concept for the venue, completing the group’s prestigious dining destination.
Leading the kitchen is Head Chef Gerald Ong (ex-Chairman Hong Kong, Mrs Wang, Lucky Duck, and Tigerlane).
The menu is a modern take on Cantonese dining, reinterpreting classic dishes with modern techniques and local produce. Designed to be shared, dishes include drunken prawn tarts; tea quail egg with caviar, and Harvey Bay scallops with house XO.
“The Fifty-Six is a beautiful restaurant that will enhance the vibrant food scene of Brisbane and offer a taste of Hong Kong style. I am bringing my love and passion for Cantonese cuisine and mixing it with modern techniques which I believe will be a very special dining experience”, says Ong.
Shawn Brown and Bar Manager Reece Van Rijen have curated a selection of beverages to complement the menu, including classic and contemporary cocktails inspired by Cantonese cuisine.
“We have poured our hearts into creating something extraordinarily special for Brisbane and Australia. We want Naldham House to be a celebration of our city’s heritage and rich culture for years to come,” said Dap & Co. Co-Owner Andrew Baturo when the project was first announced last year.
The Fifty Six will be open Tuesday to Saturday for lunch, and from 5pm till late.
