Kyiv Social is the fourth venue from the Plate it Forward Hospitality Group led by Shaun Christie-David.
Located in an ex-English Scottish Bank in Sydney’s Broadway, Kyiv Social carries the group’s ethos of equal opportunity across the table.
Kyiv Social’s Ukrainian menu is a collaborative effort between Julian V Cincotta, Travis Harvey (ex-Ozharvest executive chef), Vincent Dyevoich (Dovetail and Colicchio & Sons), Ukrainian cultural consultant Nadiia Mohylna, and Ukrainian Head Chef Borys Chernyk (Ukraine’s Selfish).
Similar to Plate it Forward’s other venues, Kyiv Social’s menu combines maternal recipes with modern influences.
Some of the dishes on the menu include Grandma’s hand-made dumplings and Holubtsi, green sorrel Borscht, and the signature Kyiv which is a giant, share-style Bannockburn chicken.
The Ukrainian kitchen team has also collaborated with LP’s Quality Meats to create a lightly smoked beef and pork Ukrainian sausage served in a ‘bangers and mash’ dish.
For each guest that dines in on the venue’s set menu, Plate it Forward will donate one meal to someone in need in Sydney and one in Ukraine, too.
Kyiv Social’s drinks offering champions vodka, with The Little Marionette’s Blue Krane vodka star of the show alongside a range of infused vodkas crafted by the bar team.
The wine list also features an exclusive tipple from Eastern European winemaker Jeff Aston of Tractorless Wines.
Kyiv Social was born after conversations between Christie-David and a charity assisting newly arrived Ukrainians and sees Kyiv Social employ 15 of its members and also host a weekly free lunch for the charity.
Kyiv Social follows Plate it Forward’s other venues Colombo Social, Kabul Social, and Coyoacán Social.
Kyiv Social is located at 202 Broadway, Chippendale.
